Q. What is OMRI and why is it important?

A. OMRI is the Organic Materials Review Institute which authenticates the "organic-ness" of fertilizer products. The standards are rather rigorous, but if OMRI is mentioned on a label, it means the product has passed inspection and that the fertilizer can be used for organic production. To us, it also indicates product purity. Our OMRI listed product is Guarantee® Organic 0-0-1 Liquid Seaweed Extract. NutriVeg® 5-4-4 All Natural, Organic Fertilizer is similarly listed under MOFGA, the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association.

Q. I notice that you have similar organic ingredients in all your products, so why do you have different products for vegetables, flowers and lawns?

A. While it’s true our products have many common ingredients, you will notice that they are present in different amounts and proportions. This is because different types of plants have different nutritional requirements. For example, flowers need phosphorus to bloom. (Phosphorus is represented by the second number in the three numerals you see on all fertilizer packages.) Lawns need extra nitrogen, (the first number you see on fertilizers) especially in the spring, and iron helps give a good green color.

Perhaps most importantly, we feel that vegetables should be grown without the addition of any synthetic nutrients. This is in keeping with the requirements for gardeners who grow “certified organic” vegetables. So our vegetable line has only natural and organic ingredients.

Q: How are these products good for the environment?

A: First, the use of organic meals in our granular products ensures that the Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium won’t leach into the soil and contribute to groundwater contamination and pond or lake algae. Second, the plants become healthier because of the varied and rich nutrient base of the products. Because they are healthier, they are less susceptible to pests and you will need fewer, if any, pesticides, and that’s better for you, and better for the environment too.

Q. Can I use just one product, instead of two or three?

A. Yes – choose any one and still get wonderful results!  However, because of the great synergy between these materials, the most impressive results will come from using two together – a granular and a liquid.  Also, if your soil is quite depleted, you will benefit from three.

In selecting, carefully look at your soil first. If you don’t see many earthworms, or if it isn’t rich and loamy, use The Right Stuff®.

If you have been using organics in your soil or feel  you already have good soil, you will benefit from Grand Prize® granular fertilizer for flower gardens, and NutriVeg® granular fertilizer for organic vegetables. (Either product can be used under all gardening circumstances, but the NutriVeg is OMRI listed for organic growing; the Grand Prize has additional nutrients to help promote flowering.)

Using Guarantee® (kelp extract / liquid concentrate) products will boost plant health and stress resistance and give you bigger, stronger root systems in addition to the fertilization benefits. The Guarantee® products are also great on indoor plants – Guarantee®Bloom will keep your indoor plants flowering much of the year.

Questions On the Vegetable Line

Q. Why are your fertilizer products for vegetables labeled as “all natural”?

A. We only include meals and minerals that occur naturally. Nothing synthetic. Why? Because you eat the crops these fertilizers produce. We only want the best for our bodies. We assume that’s what you want too. Your taste buds can tell the difference and your entire body will benefit.

Q: I’m a certified organic vegetable grower. Can I use The Right Stuff, NutriVeg, and Guarantee Organic on my crops?

A: Absolutely!

Q My girlfriend told me that she likes to spray Guarantee Organic on her flowers and lawn as well as on her vegetables. Why is that?

A. She probably likes the fact that it’s pure seaweed extract, derived from the mineral-rich cold waters of the North Atlantic ocean. It has every essential and beneficial element known to produce plant growth and also contains naturally-occurring growth hormones that help plants grow strong root systems and better tolerate stress.

She could use Guarantee Bloom for flowers, because along with seaweed extract, it has added phosphorus to increase blooming. And she could use Guarantee Green for her lawn and trees and shrubs because along with seaweed extract, it has extra nitrogen and potassium and iron added. But perhaps she likes the simplicity and naturalness of Guarantee Organic — it is truly good for everything.

Questions on the Lawn, Trees and Shrub Line

Q. How is EnviGreen safer than other fertilizers?

A: First, it has no weed killers added to it. Second, its ingredients are based on natural feed grade meals. Only very small amounts of synthetic nutrients are used. This means that the nutrients will not leach through the soil.

Q. Will my neighbors really turn green with envy when they see my lawn?

A. No. Only your lawn will turn green. But please notice that the “envi” in EnviGreen also refers to the environmental nature of this product. It’s safe and earth-friendly.

Q. How can I control my weeds if I don’t use weed killers?

A. The best natural defense against weeds is a good, solid stand of healthy turf. You can get that by using the Organics The Easy Way® line of products. And consider this. If you do still get dandelions, they will be healthy and pesticide free—so you can eat those nutrient-rich leaves in your salad and make dandelion wine. For your good health, we never include pesticides in any of our products.

Q. Do I really need to feed my trees and shrubs?
